Thucydides (Θουκυδίδης, c. 460 – c. 400 BC) was an Athenian general and historian whose History of the Peloponnesian War offers a detailed, analytical chronicle of the protracted conflict between Athens and Sparta that erupted in 431 BC and ended in Athenian defeat in 404 BC.
